Freedom

One of the effects of “Shelter In Place” is that is “feels like” we have lost our freedom. In some ways we are limited for sure.  We must be careful not to cause harm to others by spreading this virus to those who are more vulnerable than others. Things are different, but there are still some freedoms that we enjoy.  Paul Harvey used to say, “With freedom comes great responsibility and self-discipline”.

As I finished reading the book of Judges this morning, my heart was troubled by the lack of leadership from the people. The Lord longed to be their leader. He offered His guidance and help many times only to be rebuffed. It seemed like it was “every person for himself”. Check this out….

25 In those days Israel had no king; all the people did whatever seemed right in their own eyes. (Judges 21:25 NLT)

I can only imagine what our country would be like if “all the people did whatever seemed right in their own eyes”. We would have death. We would have destruction. We would have total chaos in our land.

I’m thankful for our local leaders.
I’m thankful for our state leaders.

I’m thankful for our national leaders.

I’m thankful for the people who are “standing in the gap” for the rest of us. I’m thankful for hospital workers, firemen, EMT, police who are first responders to anyone in trouble. They are actually risking their lives for the sake of people they don’t know and some that they do know. I’m also thankful for our military men and women who are standing guard against any enemy who might seek to take advantage of such a distraction.

I’m thankful for the rule of law that prevents people from just going into stores to get whatever they want.

I’m thankful for our health officials and scientists who are attacking this virus in the lab and test tubes. They are fighting for our freedoms differently.

Freedom certainly isn’t free – It never has been. It costs us our time, energy and resources. It sure is a weird time during this quarantine, but I believe it will pass. Our freedoms will expand once more.

Pressing On!

Dwayne
