Trend

I am not really much of a “trend setter” or a “trend watcher”.  I heard a phrase when taking financial peace from Dave Ramsey years ago that talked about how we often try to impress people we don’t know or even like. When I was growing up my mom referred to it as “keeping up with the Jones”.  I know some people and even like some peopled with the name Jones!  I’ve learned that most people don’t notice or care what I like or don’t like – they just like what they like.

There are quite a few people who are following the latest trends. There are times when acting “religious” is a trend. There are times when acting like a “hellion” is a trend as well.

The people of Israel started trending toward idol worship under Solomon’s reign. He brought in foreign wives, who brought their own gods. The kings after Solomon mostly trended toward idols worship and ignored God. Omri is just one example of the trend of idol worshipping kings. Check this out…..

23 Omri began to rule over Israel in the thirty-first year of King Asa’s reign in Judah. He reigned twelve years in all, six of them in Tirzah. 24 Then Omri bought the hill now known as Samaria from its owner, Shemer, for 150 pounds of silver. He built a city on it and called the city Samaria in honor of Shemer.

25 But Omri did what was evil in the Lord’s sight, even more than any of the kings before him. 26 He followed the example of Jeroboam son of Nebat in all the sins he had committed and led Israel to commit. The people provoked the anger of the Lord, the God of Israel, with their worthless idols. (1 Kings 16:23-26 NLT)

I love seeing trends toward love, respect and honor shown to the Lord.

I love seeing trends toward love, respect and honor shown to one another.

I want my life to trend growing deeper in my love, respect and honor the Lord. It takes intentional actions to seek the Lord. I can’t just drift along with the society that I’m living in. I sometimes feel like a fish swimming upstread against the flow of the creek because so much our culture is trending toward self and whatever self wants.  I want what the Lord wants. I want my life to reflect His Presence in me. I want to be faithful and loyal to Him. I believe His way is ALWAYS best.  I would love to see our world trend toward trust and seeking the Lord for everything.

Pressing On!

Dwayne
