The Love Of God

I grew up singing a song in church called “The Love of God” written by Frederick M. Lehman. I still remember some of the lyrics.

The love of God is greater far
Than tongue or pen can ever tell;
It goes beyond the highest star,
And reaches to the lowest hell;
The guilty pair, bowed down with care,
God gave His Son to win;
His erring child He reconciled,
And pardoned from his sin.

Refrain:
Oh, love of God, how rich and pure!
How measureless and strong!
It shall forevermore endure—
The saints’ and angels’ song.

Could we with ink the ocean fill,
And were the skies of parchment made,
Were every stalk on earth a quill,
And every man a scribe by trade;
To write the love of God above
Would drain the ocean dry;
Nor could the scroll contain the whole,
Though stretched from sky to sky.

When I try to comprehend or understand the Love of The Father, I just get stopped with the depth of His Love. I love John’s perspective on Jesus because He walked with Him. John also describes the Love of God profoundly. Check this out….

Dear friends, let us love one another, for love comes from God. Everyone who loves has been born of God and knows God. Whoever does not love does not know God, because God is love. This is how God showed his love among us: He sent his one and only Son into the world that we might live through him. 10 This is love: not that we loved God, but that he loved us and sent his Son as an atoning sacrifice for our sins. 11 Dear friends, since God so loved us, we also ought to love one another. 12 No one has ever seen God; but if we love one another, God lives in us and his love is made complete in us. (1 John 4:7-12 NLT)

God’s Love is consistent.

God’s Love is real.

God’s Love is HUGE!

God’s Love is relentless.

I love others because of God’s love for me. He loves me and calls me to love others like He loves me. This is sometimes easier said than done. I understand that my loving others is NOT optional for me. If I received God’s Love (and I have), then I must love others. My loving others is a HUGE TESTIMONY of how God’s love works. I don’t deserve His love. I didn’t earn His Love. He loves like no other because He is the Author of Love.

Pressing On!

Dwayne
