Temporary

temporary, permanent road signI was reminded today that everything I see, touch and know is temporary. I don’t know of any one tangible thing that is eternal. Of course the soul never dies, but our bodies do. I know it’s a bummer and a bit morbid to talk about this, but I can’t deny the inevitability of the facts of life’s temporary status. This beautiful city by the sea called Tyre had become extremely wealthy and was a great merchant supplier for much of the region. It was temporary too. Check this out…

33 When your merchandise went out on the seas,

    you satisfied many nations;

with your great wealth and your wares

    you enriched the kings of the earth.

34 Now you are shattered by the sea

    in the depths of the waters;

your wares and all your company

    have gone down with you.

35 All who live in the coastlands

    are appalled at you;

their kings shudder with horror

    and their faces are distorted with fear.

36 The merchants among the nations scoff at you;

    you have come to a horrible end

    and will be no more.”’ (Ezekiel 27:33-36 NIV)

I’ve lived nearly 54 years. I’m several years into my second career, which I enjoy. I have an amazing family. I have a simple house on a little spot of land. I have a fantastic church family. I have a wonderful work family. I feel blessed in more ways that I can count. It is temporary. There is only a certain number of years for me to live and walk this earth. The same is true for every person – whether they are rich or poor. I was reminded that Steve Jobs, the founder of Apple – the wealthiest companies around still had an incurable disease. We are all temporary and all I have is temporary.

There are some eternal items of value. I believe that faith and hope are also temporary, but love is eternal. When I see the Lord, I will have no need of faith and hope as they both will be realized – but love will continue on. It is an eternal value that I enjoy during my temporary time on earth and it will continue on into eternity.

I’m full of love today and I’m expanding my capacity to love more as I walk with the Lord. He defines Love and Love is eternal.

Pressing On!

Dwayne
