Simple Instructions

I am that guy who only reads instructions if it looks complicated. If I receive something in the mail or purchase something at the store that needs assembling, I usually try to put it together by looking at the pictures first. Then if it’s difficult of if I have parts left over, then I’ll look carefully at the instructions. I guess in my mind, I’m saving lots of time.

The Lord gives us lots of instructions in His Word that are really helpful to know how to live. I find hope for hard times. I find healing when I’m broken. I find love when I’m deeply wounded. The prophet Zechariah is telling God’s people that they are about to be restored. The Lord gives some simple instructions. Check this out…

16 These are the things you are to do: Speak the truth to each other, and render true and sound judgment in your courts; 17 do not plot evil against each other, and do not love to swear falsely. I hate all this,’ declares the Lord. (Zechariah 8:16-17 NIV)

Truth is foundational to any relationship that I have. The Lord loves truth but hates lies and deceit. Zechariah makes it crystal clear that the Lord will not tolerate dishonesty and deceit. I would be wise to keep my truth detector on high alert at all times. Truth is not relative to any given situation. Out of truth flows love, honor and respect to name a few good by products. Truth is not a moving target it is a stationary one. This is not a popular position to many in our culture today, but I believe that the Word of God is truth and it speaks truth into any culture.

Pressing On!
