Set Apart

There are times when an athlete excels in such a way that they “set themselves apart” from the other athletes playing the game. They weren’t really “set apart” as much as they “set themselves apart”. There are also times when a teacher or coach sees something special in a student and they set them apart for a certain task. I think of kickers in the NFL as being “set apart” to do all the kicking during the game. They specialize in that area of the game.

Aaron’s sons were set apart to minister as priests for God’s people. The Lord made this clear while they were camped at Mt. Sinai and He was giving them instructions on setting up His nation of people. Check this out….

1This is the account of the family of Aaron and Moses at the time the Lord spoke to Moses at Mount Sinai.

The names of the sons of Aaron were Nadab the firstborn and Abihu, Eleazar and Ithamar. Those were the names of Aaron’s sons, the anointed priests, who were ordained to serve as priests. (Numbers 3: 1-3 NLT)

Aaron’s sons were set apart to serve as priests – the liaison between God and the individual people, families and tribes.  The Levite tribe was to provide the assistants to Aaron’s sons. The people of Levi didn’t receive an inheritance of land per se. They were taken care of by the people and the offerings much like our Pastors are cared for today by the church they minister too.

When Jesus arrived on the scene, He was known as Prophet, Priest & King! He would fulfill the prophets of old as well as prepare people for what was to come. He was the final Priest needed for we have direct access to God because Jesus was the final liaison needed. He was King of all Kings and we serve at His discretion and His command.

I believe all Christ followers serve in ministry among and alongside the people they work and the family they live with. I serve others because Jesus first served me. I serve others because I am  considered on of God’s kids. Check this out….

But you are a chosen people, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, God’s special possession, that you may declare the praises of him who called you out of darkness into his wonderful light. 10 Once you were not a people, but now you are the people of God; once you had not received mercy, but now you have received mercy. (1 Peter 2:9 NLT)

My work is cut out for me. Not only do I serve as a REALTOR for clients and customers. I also serve at the request of my Heavenly Father. It’s not optional – it’s a direct calling from Him to serve.  I have found way more success in simply serving people than trying to sell them something.

Pressing On!

Dwayne
