Secrets

I remember hearing secrets as a kid. I’m sure I was not a good secret keeper. As I grew older, I learned who to trust with secrets.  Our government has secrets – every government does. When secrets leak out, it reveals insight and motives of the people keeping the secrets. I’ve always thought of a secret being “dark” or “hidden in the dark”.  If I don’t know something, I’ve used the phrase: “I’m in the dark on that”.  All secrets are not bad, because some people do things in secret that are amazing and wonderful – they just want to remain anonymous.

Jesus told a simple story about light that speaks to secrets. Light chases the darkness out. Light is quiet but makes a loud statement. The deeper the darkness, the more significant the smallest of light. Check this out….

21 Then Jesus asked them, “Would anyone light a lamp and then put it under a basket or under a bed? Of course not! A lamp is placed on a stand, where its light will shine. 22 For everything that is hidden will eventually be brought into the open, and every secret will be brought to light. (Mark 4:21-22 NLT)

There are no secrets that the Lord doesn’t know. He knows all my secrets and He loves me anyway. I need Him to keep me in check. He is not shocked and surprised when secrets are revealed.  I want to welcome the light of His Word into my life. I want His Light to shine brightly on me, in me, and through me.

I don’t want to hide behind some sort of mask or image that others may have of me. I am simply a man who is sinful and repentant of my sin. The Lord has nailed my sin to a cross and I’m forgiven. The Spirit of God in me convicts me when I start trying to hide my sin.  I am so thankful for the amazing grace of God. He uses someone like me to serve in His Kingdom. His mercies are new each morning. I welcome His light to invade my soul.

Pressing On!
