Like A Child

I think there is a kid in all of us. I sometimes think back to what life was like when I was eight or ten years old.  I remember my parents and grandparents looking out for me. I remember my mom cooking some of my favorite foods and my Mammie would make goodies as well. My Pappy had a general store and I loved it because he would give me lots of candy!  To this day, I really enjoy candy. I think candy brings out the kid in me.

Now that I’m old, I reminisce what it would be like to be a kid again. I came across this encounter with Jesus and He calls children to Him. Check this out…

13 One day some parents brought their children to Jesus so he could touch and bless them. But the disciples scolded the parents for bothering him.

14 When Jesus saw what was happening, he was angry with his disciples. He said to them, “Let the children come to me. Don’t stop them! For the Kingdom of God belongs to those who are like these children. 15 I tell you the truth, anyone who doesn’t receive the Kingdom of God like a child will never enter it.” 16 Then he took the children in his arms and placed his hands on their heads and blessed them. (Mark 10:13-16 NLT)

Jesus’ mission to adults did not out-weigh His mission to children. He loved children. There are stages in the life of a child that is harder than at other stages, but I love children too. Children are so carefree and full of life. They don’t have the worries that we adults have.  They have such an innocence and purity until they don’t.

As I read those two lines about being “like” children, I’m reminded that the Lord cares about my heart as I come to Him. He wants me to be pure and innocent. He wants me to be eager. He wants me to be all in like a child.  As an adult, I can become more sophisticated and intellectual and that can hinder my surrendering to Jesus.

He wants me to trust Him like a child.

He wants me to love Him like a child.

He wants me to follow Him anywhere like a child.

I want to cultivate my child-like faith before the Lord as I seek Him.

Pressing On!

Dwayne
