Leaders Lead By Serving

I heard a guy on a podcast the other day say that “I’ve quit using the term ‘servant-leader’, because in my view, there is no other kind of leader.” In studying leadership in the Word of God, I believe he’s 100% correct. I also believe that everyone who has the capability of reading this is a leader on some level at some point. Everyone leads, even if it’s only one person, hundreds of people or more. Leaders are serving the ones they lead, or they are not leading. Jesus was the Ultimate Leader and He served His followers by washing their feet at the last supper.

King Lemuel shows up in Proverbs 31 and that’s the only place he’s found in the Bible. Some scholars believe he is Hezekiah and others believe he is King Solomon. His writings were inspired, and some given to him by his Mom. He writes some beautiful descriptions about a godly woman. Before that he pens some inspirational words about how we should live. Check this out….

Speak up for those who cannot speak for themselves;
    ensure justice for those being crushed.
Yes, speak up for the poor and helpless,
    and see that they get justice. (Proverbs 31:8-9 NLT)

This is good counsel for those who lead – which is everyone.  There are people around us who are helpless and destitute – we should help them. It is sometimes overwhelming when I look around at the hurting people close by. There are thousands and thousands of people around the world who need help being heard and who need to be defended.

I first learned about Invisible Children when my son interned with them for a few months.

https://invisiblechildren.comThis organization works primarily in on the continent of Africa helping provide safe communities for children.

https://www.ijm.orgis an organization dedicated to end slavery in the US and around the world.

https://www.wipeeverytear.orgis an organization that seeks to rescue women trafficked in sex trade.

There are poor, helpless and injustices close to where I live as well. I can give. I can serve. I can call attention to all Christ followers to seek ways to love, serve and give.

I can help.

I should help.

I must help.

While I’m not in leadership at some huge helping organization. I can help organizations. I can speak to leadership in our churches. We can’t act like there are not hurting, helpless people who can’t speak for themselves. We must be the hands and feet of Jesus to our world.

Pressing On!

Dwayne
