Kindness

I think kindness creates opportunity for blessings multiply. If I’m kind to one person and then that person is kind to another, the ripple effect can go on and on. Kindness is having a good nature or disposition coming from a gentle spirit. I think I could argue that Christ followers should possess kindness because of the Spirit of God in us.

King David, the warrior king displayed kindness often. I think he had a gentle spirit because of his close relationship to the heart of God.  I came across an example of David’s kindness in my reading this morning. Check this out….

1 One day David asked, “Is anyone in Saul’s family still alive—anyone to whom I can show kindness for Jonathan’s sake?”

He summoned a man named Ziba, who had been one of Saul’s servants. “Are you Ziba?” the king asked.

“Yes sir, I am,” Ziba replied.

The king then asked him, “Is anyone still alive from Saul’s family? If so, I want to show God’s kindness to them.”

Ziba replied, “Yes, one of Jonathan’s sons is still alive. He is crippled in both feet.”

So David sent for him and brought him from Makir’s home. His name was Mephibosheth[a]; he was Jonathan’s son and Saul’s grandson. When he came to David, he bowed low to the ground in deep respect. David said, “Greetings, Mephibosheth.”

Mephibosheth replied, “I am your servant.”

“Don’t be afraid!” David said. “I intend to show kindness to you because of my promise to your father, Jonathan. I will give you all the property that once belonged to your grandfather Saul, and you will eat here with me at the king’s table!”(2 Samuel 9:1-3,5-7 NLT)

David had a good memory and recalled his relationship with Jonathan. His kindness to Jonathan’s son reveals great depth in David’s heart. He had the power to wipe out any of Saul’s descendants and no one would have thought much of it. Instead, he shows kindness to the one heir left.

I think kindness can disarm people.

I think kindness can make people think you’re up to something.

I think kindness can open up great conversation.

I think kindness is an attribute of Jesus.

I think kindness to others is expected of Christ followers.

I think kindness to others can eradicate jealousy and envy.

A person who is kind displays great confidence in their own position in Christ. They have nothing to prove, but kindness shown to others can be life-changing to all parties engaged in kindness.

Pressing On!
