Inexhaustible

I looked up the word “unfailing” in on www.thesaurus.comand found several synonyms for this word. I was looking for a different angle as a way of hearing this Psalm differently. There were several synonyms for this word, but I liked “inexhaustible” the best. Here are a few other synonyms that didn’t make the cut: bottomless, boundless, eternal, steadfast, unflagging. There were over 35 others that I didn’t choose. I understand exhaustion and when I saw the word “inexhaustible”, I realized that the Lord is NEVER exhausted. He never gets tired or weary like me. The word inexhaustible means: “incapable of being depleted, untiring, tireless.” David was using a synonym of this word to describe the Lord. Check this out…

There are days when I work really long hours and I’m absolutely exhausted. I make it to my chair and I sit there for a long rest. I have to push through exhaustion on some days because there is simply more to do.  I like to go to bed a little earlier after days like that. I’ve learned that my mornings and my day are directly connected to the amount of rest I got the night before. If I sit still for very long in the middle of the afternoon, I can squeeze in a “power nap” of 10-15 minutes rest.

It is hard for me to grasp that the Lord NEVER tires or needs to rest. I always want to put human characteristics and limitations upon Him because that is what I know. He made me in His likeness, but my body is human and in lots of ways, I’m frail and flawed. When I read the Psalms of David, my perspective of the Lord is adjusted properly.

I’m profoundly thankful that His love is inexhaustible (aka unfailing). I’m thankful that His love and grace cannot be depleted. I’m resting in that today.
