I Have Heard….

There are all sorts of rumors flying around. If you attempt to do something good, there will probably be rumors about why you did it. If you do something good, it might get totally “blown out of proportion” by the stories and rumors that get added for embellishment.  You can’t believe everything you read and hear. I feel like you have to “vet” the story as much as you can.

Joshua sent two spies into the land they were about to take as their promised possession. These two guys were gathering “intel” on Jericho and the surrounding area. They reached the house of Rahab, a prostitute. The king of Jericho found out and sent a team to look for them, but Rahab had hidden them on the roof underneath a pile of flax that she was drying.  She sent the kings men in a different direction. The things she had heard about the Israelites were all true. Check this out…

Before the spies went to sleep that night, Rahab went up on the roof to talk with them. “I know the Lord has given you this land,” she told them. “We are all afraid of you. Everyone in the land is living in terror. 10 For we have heard how the Lord made a dry path for you through the Red Sea when you left Egypt. And we know what you did to Sihon and Og, the two Amorite kings east of the Jordan River, whose people you completely destroyed. 11 No wonder our hearts have melted in fear! No one has the courage to fight after hearing such things. For the Lord your God is the supreme God of the heavens above and the earth below. (Joshua 2:8-11 NLT)

This passage caused me to reflect on what I’ve heard about the Lord. I’ve heard stories of His Power. I’ve heard stories of His kindness. I’ve heard stories of His Justice. I’ve heard story after story of His love. As I read His Word, I’m hearing more than stories. I’m hearing Him speak right into the depths of my heart about Who He is and ALL that He’s doing.  He has been and still is “The Way Maker, Miracle Worker, Promise Keeper and Light in the darkness”.  I can tell others what I’ve experienced in my walk with the Lord. I’ve heard lots about Him, but the things I’ve experienced have taken my faith and trust in the Lord to a whole deeper level.

I’m thankful for the people who first told me about the Lord. I’m thankful for the people who shared their experiences with God as well as what they had heard. It’s a story that never gets old, but also never gets completed. The height, the depth and the width of The Lord’s Love is beyond measure, and beyond comprehension. I will tell all who will listen of the goodness of God to me.

Pressing On!

Dwayne
