His Love Endures Forever

I don’t understand forever. Everyone I know has had a birth. I now know lots of people who once lived but have died. Forever is endless. It is continuous. When all that I see and know has a beginning and ending, it’s hard to wrap my head around eternity. What I know about it comes from the Word of God – the Bible. God talks about eternity in the Old Testament and Jesus talks extensively about it in the New Testament. The older I get, the more I think about eternity because science tells me that this earthly body doesn’t last forever, however my soul lives forever. I also think about eternal life when I’m walking with a family through death. I don’t know any family that death has not touched. The Lord has something better than this life. Jesus promises an eternal existence that would blow our mind if we could see it for just 60 seconds.

I came across a Psalm this morning that is written in a different form. The Psalmist says one lien over and over. Check this out….

Give thanks to the Lord, for he is good!
His faithful love endures forever.
Give thanks to the God of gods.
His faithful love endures forever.
Give thanks to the Lord of lords.
His faithful love endures forever. (Psalm 136:1-3 NLT)

Our country celebrates Thanksgiving less than one week from today. This is starting to be my favorite holiday to celebrate. Gratitude is critical to a Christ-follower. Life without the Lord would be empty and meaningless. Life without the Lord would not contain hope. Life without the Lord would make eternity pointless. Zig Ziglar used to say that “Gratitude means ‘great-attitude’!”

When I realize how much the Lord loves me, my heart is filled with gratitude. I certainly don’t always deserve His love, but He pours it out all over me.  I deserve justice and punishment, but instead I receive grace and mercy. If I get nothing else accomplished in my day today and every day, I should stop and thank the Lord for His gifts in my life.  I should thank Him for His Love. I should thank Him for my family. I should thank Him for my friends. I should thank Him for my Jesus family. I should thank Him for my clients and customers. I should thank Him for my co-workers and Metro West team. I could make a really long list of all that I’m thankful for, but it could be summed up in verse one of this Psalm:

“Give thanks to the Lord, for He is good!

His faithful love endures forever.” (Psalm 136:1 NLT)

I want forever to find me seeking His face.

I want forever to find me pursuing His heart.
I want forever to find me being thankful.

Pressing On!

Dwayne
