Details

There are people who are “detail oriented” people and there those who overlook a lot of the details. The people who often skip or skim over the details are often dreamers and vision casters. They are on to the next big thing while the team that works to support them are plowing through the details. I’ve also seen people who get bogged down in the details and they major on minor details, because it’s a detail.  I’ve also heard it said that “the devil is in the details” – a saying that appears to mean that details are negative. I’m suggesting that details are NOT always negative. When I’m showing a house with detailed trim work throughout the house, some people appreciate the work, while others could care less.

King Solomon thought details were important. He hired this guy Huram to do all the trim work and detail work for the furnishings of the temple. Check this out….

So at last Huram completed everything King Solomon had assigned him to make for the Temple of the Lord:

41 the two pillars;
the two bowl-shaped capitals on top of the pillars;
the two networks of interwoven chains that decorated the capitals;
42 the 400 pomegranates that hung from the chains on the capitals (two rows of pomegranates for each of the chain networks that decorated the capitals on top of the pillars);
43 the ten water carts holding the ten basins;
44 the Sea and the twelve oxen under it;
45 the ash buckets, the shovels, and the bowls.

Huram made all these things of burnished bronze for the Temple of the Lord, just as King Solomon had directed. (1 Kings 7:40b-45 NLT)

People who are good at detail are often organized and they plan well. Details take time to “punch out” and are more important to some than others.

There are some who skim over the Word of God. There are others who dive into the details. I’m probably somewhere in the middle. I love sitting under some teachers who dig into the Word of God and help me understand the cultural context as well as the reasons for the story being presented as it is.  I want to understand the details of God’s Word and how He can speak to me through an artisan who does bronze work for the temple as well as a king who is pursuing God’s heart for wisdom and discernment.

I think it is good to read the Word of God and soak in some of the detail from the people who were seeking to honor God with their life. It inspires and motivates me in the details and the fly-over view as well.

Pressing On!
