Deep Love

I think love is probably one of the most overused and misused word in the English language. We love the weather, we love certain foods, we love our family, and we love God. The list could really be long. The issue is that the one-word love is so general and not specific. In other languages, there are qualifiers that determine the type of love we’re speaking of when we speak about our love for someone or something.

Our love is at multiple levels depending upon the relationship. Our love grows for one another when we spend time together. I would argue that time is the currency of love.

Jesus was teaching and being confronted by some of the religious leaders. He taught with authority and it surprised them at times. Check this out…

28 One of the teachers of religious law was standing there listening to the debate. He realized that Jesus had answered well, so he asked, “Of all the commandments, which is the most important?”

29 Jesus replied, “The most important commandment is this: ‘Listen, O Israel! The Lord our God is the one and only Lord. 30 And you must love the Lord your God with all your heart, all your soul, all your mind, and all your strength.’ 31 The second is equally important: ‘Love your neighbor as yourself.’ No other commandment is greater than these.”

32 The teacher of religious law replied, “Well said, Teacher. You have spoken the truth by saying that there is only one God and no other. 33 And I know it is important to love him with all my heart and all my understanding and all my strength, and to love my neighbor as myself. This is more important than to offer all of the burnt offerings and sacrifices required in the law.”

34 Realizing how much the man understood, Jesus said to him, “You are not far from the Kingdom of God.” And after that, no one dared to ask him any more questions. (Mark 12:28-34 NLT)

When I spend time with the Lord in His Word, my faith gets deeper and my love for Him gains strength.  Love could be spelled a different way: T I M E!

I choose every day the people and things I love most. I invest my time in those things. If I shared my checking account register, you could certainly see what I value. I want to make it a daily priority to spend time with the Lord. I want to walk with Him throughout my day. I want to talk with Him seeking clarity and wisdom. I want my love for the Lord to be clearly obvious. I want my love for the Lord to flow right into the people I love most AND the people I connect with today.

Pressing On!
