Come To The Altar

I remember as a kid growing up in the Christian Church we didn’t have an “altar” per se. The preacher always offered an invitation after the sermon for all who needed to surrender their heart to the Lord or to rededicate their life to the Lord.  I later learned that is some churches they had an altar up front and that people could come after the message and simply pray or asked for prayer. I feel like I needed to rededicate my life every Sunday, yet it would have been a bit embarrassing. I sometimes wish we had an altar so that I could just go pray and repent. I realize today that the “altar” can be in my home, at work or wherever. The emphasis is not regarding a place, but regarding posture of my heart.

The Israelites had heard all of the sacrifices and routines as Moses had shared them. It was now time for Aaron and his sons to start their important work of purifying themselves and the people before God. Check this out…..

22 After that, Aaron raised his hands toward the people and blessed them. Then, after presenting the sin offering, the burnt offering, and the peace offering, he stepped down from the altar. 23 Then Moses and Aaron went into the Tabernacle, and when they came back out, they blessed the people again, and the glory of the Lord appeared to the whole community. 24 Fire blazed forth from the Lord’s presence and consumed the burnt offering and the fat on the altar. When the people saw this, they shouted with joy and fell face down on the ground. (Leviticus 9:22-24 NLT)

There is power when surrender takes place in my heart. There is the Presence of God Who lives in me when I come to the “altar”. I heard a few years ago that still blesses me and stirs my heart.

Come To The Altar by Elevation Worship

Are you hurting and broken within?
Overwhelmed by the weight of your sin?
Jesus is calling
Have you come to the end of yourself?
Do you thirst for a drink from the well?
Jesus is calling

O come to the altar
The Father’s arms are open wide
Forgiveness was bought with
The precious blood of Jesus Christ

Leave behind your regrets and mistakes
Come today, there’s no reason to wait
Jesus is calling
Bring your sorrows and trade them for joy
From the ashes, a new life is born
Jesus is calling

Oh what a Savior
Isn’t He wonderful?
Sing hallelujah, Christ is risen
Bow down before Him
For He is Lord of all
Sing hallelujah, Christ is risen
