Come Back Home

I remember when my parents lived in Kentucky and we would go “home” to visit them. I grew up in a big house on a hill and my parents owned about 40 acres. There is something special about going home where I grew up and seeing the way many things have changes, but many things are still the same. I’m way different than when I last lived there. I remember the small church I grew up in. I remember going to my grandparents to visit and help them whenever they needed help.

Now I have a home of my own and my kids come home every now and then. It’s different for them, but somehow the same. We recently did some remodeling inside and it feels different but it’s still home for sure.

Isaiah was writing to the people of Judah and Israel and reminding them to seek the Lord. After telling them what would happen if they kept going their own way, he reminds them that the Lord is waiting on them to come back home. Check this out….

15 This is what the Sovereign Lord,
the Holy One of Israel, says:
“Only in returning to me
and resting in me will you be saved.
In quietness and confidence is your strength.

18 So the Lord must wait for you to come to him
so he can show you his love and compassion.
For the Lord is a faithful God.
Blessed are those who wait for his help.

21 Your own ears will hear him.
Right behind you a voice will say,
“This is the way you should go,”
whether to the right or to the left. (Isaiah 30:15,18,21 NLT)

I couldn’t help thinking of this song we sing at church called: “O Come To The Altar”

Are you hurting and broken within?
Overwhelmed by the weight of your sin?
Jesus is calling
Have you come to the end of yourself
Do you thirst for a drink from the well?
Jesus is calling

O come to the altar
The Father’s arms are open wide
Forgiveness was bought with
The precious blood of Jesus Christ

Leave behind your regrets and mistakes
Come today there’s no reason to wait
Jesus is calling
Bring your sorrows and trade them for joy
From the ashes a new life is born
Jesus is calling

Oh what a savior
Isn’t He wonderful?
Sing hallelujah, Christ is risen
Bow down before Him
For He is Lord of all
Sing Hallelujah, Christ is risen

Bear your cross as you wait for the crown
Tell the world of the treasure you found

(written by Christopher Brown / Wade Joye / Steven Furtick / Mack Brock)

I want to come home and hang out with the Lord every day of the rest of my life here on earth.

Pressing On!

Dwayne
