Can’t Buy Love

I sometime feel badly for famous people who are wealthy. I suspect that they have a tough time discerning when someone is pursuing them for their wealth instead of their heart. I believe that there are lots of circumstances that can cloud or confuse love. People who are in powerful leadership positions have to be careful not to buy the lie of the enemy. There are people who step outside the boundaries of marriage for love. It is deceptive, hollow and very destructive. Love is a decision to put someone else above myself.  There are times when people do dumb things for money.  Paul reminded Timothy about money. Check this out….

10 For the love of money is the root of all kinds of evil. And some people, craving money, have wandered from the true faith and pierced themselves with many sorrows. (1 Timothy 6:10 NLT)

I heard a story about a wealthy man who asked a beautiful married woman if she would sleep with him for $1 Million dollars. She thought about it and then said yes. He asked her would she sleep with him for $500K.  She still said yes. He then ask her if she would sleep with her for $100K, she had to think about it, but came back with yes again. He then offered her $10K and she said: “Who do you think I am?” to which the man responded: “You are a prostitute and we are simply negotiating terms”.  When I hear that story, I’m reminded that no amount of money or fame should cause me to cash in my values of honesty, integrity and genuine love.  Love is not a commodity that can bought or sold. It is the most precious and delicate part of relationships.

King Solomon pens some very pertinent words regarding love. This passage may have been the inspiration for the Beatles song, “Can’t Buy Me Love”. Check this out….

Many waters cannot quench love,
    nor can rivers drown it.
If a man tried to buy love
    with all his wealth,
his offer would be utterly scorned. (Song of Solomon 8:7 NLT)

To love and be loved is invaluable to us as humans. Love was created by God for all. I believe the most heart-breaking thought is to never have loved or have been loved.

16 “For this is how God loved the world: He gave his one and only Son, so that everyone who believes in him will not perish but have eternal life. 17 God sent his Son into the world not to judge the world, but to save the world through him. (John 3:16-17 NLT)

I believe everyone that embraces the Love of God have a future long after this life is over. I believe the Love of God fills up my heart and opens me up to love and be loved by others.

Pressing On!

Dwayne
