Build Up

The construction business has always been intriguing to me. My wife and I had the privilege to build a house nearly 27 years ago. Our builder was an honorable Christian man. He took our simple house plans and built the home we still live in today. He was so helpful in making suggestions, like extra outlets or adjusting the walls in such a way that made things way more functional. We still enjoy where we live and have found great contentment in our simple home.

Fast forward to today and we are helping my son build a house from the ground up. He is building a post frame house. The building process was fun at times and lots of hard work at others. You can follow the progress on Instagram @thispostframehouse. We are getting close to the end of the project, and we have learned a lot about building as well as a lot about ourselves.

This morning I was reading the little book of Jude. It’s one chapter and he warns of false teachers who abuse their faith. They say they believe in Jesus, but they live lives filled with sin and destruction. I felt challenged to build up others. Check this out…

20 But you, dear friends, must build each other up in your most holy faith, pray in the power of the Holy Spirit, 21 and await the mercy of our Lord Jesus Christ, who will bring you eternal life. In this way, you will keep yourselves safe in God’s love.

22 And you must show mercy to those whose faith is wavering. 23 Rescue others by snatching them from the flames of judgment. Show mercy to still others, but do so with great caution, hating the sins that contaminate their lives. (Jude 1:20-23 NLT)

I want others to know Jesus and the mercy and grace He brings to my life. I want to be a builder in His Kingdom. I want to encourage, inspire, and motivate others to check Him out. He brings peace to any chaos. He brings comfort to times of hurting. He is building me up so that I can build up others.

Jesus brings eternal life into the mix. He promises that all who know Him will receive eternal life when this life is over. That is huge. He has also blessed me with an abundant, joy-filled life. His Presence has given me perspective and His mercies are new each morning. I am filled with gratitude because of His love for me and His Presence inside me. He is still building me and I want to keep building others!

Pressing On!

Dwayne
