Advice

Over the years I have received a lot of unsolicited advice. There are times when I have to consider the “source” of the advice. Some people think they are the smartest and wisest person in the world. If you don’t believe me, just ask them!

Good advice is when someone else has experienced what you’re facing. They’ve been down the road you’re on. Bad advice is often cliché and insensitive. There is a relationship between advice and encouragement. Encouragement is trying to lift me above my circumstances to see they will not last forever. Encouragement can evolve into advice even though the person is trying to encourage.

Absalom has taken over the capitol city and King David fled from his son in order to not have a blood bath with a civil war. The Lord advised Hushai to stay behind and frustrate the counsel that Absalom received from his advisor, Ahithophel. As Absalom settles into the city, Ahithophel advised a quick pursuit of David and catch them while they are tired.  Hushai was consulted and he told Absalom to assemble a huge army and they pursue David. (This gave David much needed time to get further away and hide properly.) Check this out…..

14 Then Absalom and all the men of Israel said, “Hushai’s advice is better than Ahithophel’s.” For the Lord had determined to defeat the counsel of Ahithophel, which really was the better plan, so that he could bring disaster on Absalom! (2 Samuel 17:14 NLT)

I must be careful whom I seek advice from.

I must be careful who I give advice too.

I also want to keep growing as a Christ follower so that any counsel I receive that contradicts the Word of God will be clear and obvious.

I want to be a ready to give good advice when asked for it. I also want to be decerneing and wise when bad advice is given.

Pressing On!

Dwayne
