Accountable

I’ve been held accountable for my actions for my whole life. I have been watching this show called “North Woods Law” where the game wardens of Maine, hold hunters accountable for obeying the law.  I purchase a license when I hunt or fish. There are rules in our society on multiple levels that I’m held accountable to.

For the most part, I like being held accountable. Accountability is often perceived as a negative thing. If I view accountability as seeing what I can get away with, then of course it’s negative. If I’m busted for breaking the rules, accountability can be expensive.  Accountability can be a positive. If I’m held accountable out of love versus accountable out of judgement.

King David reminds me that I’m held accountable by Creator God. Check this out…

But the Lord is in his holy Temple;
the Lord still rules from heaven.
He watches everyone closely,
examining every person on earth. (Psalm 11:4 NLT)

I’m accountable to the Lord for my thoughts.

I’m accountable to the Lord for my actions.

I’m accountable to the Lord for my words.

I’m accountable to my wife.

I’m accountable to my children.

I’m accountable to my parents – still.

I’m accountable to my church.

I’m accountable to my co-workers.

I’m accountable to my staff at work.

I’m accountable to my fellow REALTORS.

Accountability is mostly reciprocal. The people I’m accountable to are also accountable to me. I think this keeps accountability from swerving into judgement.  I’m sure thankful for the Grace of God and the grace of so many who loved me through some life blunders and dumb decisions. I’m a better person because I’m held accountable by so many who love me and are for me.

Pressing On!

Dwayne
