You Got A Friend

I am blessed with many friends. I have been blessed to know many people over the years. I have enjoyed staying somewhat connected over the years. I think there are different levels of friendship. There are friends who you could call in the middle of the night with an emergency. There are other friends whom you would wait until morning to call. There are friends who know you very well. There are other friends who more like acquaintances.  I was talking with someone the other day about friends from high school and college. High school friends were close geographically. College friends became close because much of what we value is the same. There are friends we work with on a day to day basis that it’s hard not to become friends. We share space at work and cross path during crazy life situations and seek to help one another along.

Friendships are a huge blessing in my life for sure. King Solomon speaks about friendship and the value of it some of his writings. Check this out….

Two people are better off than one, for they can help each other succeed. 10 If one person falls, the other can reach out and help. But someone who falls alone is in real trouble. 12 A person standing alone can be attacked and defeated, but two can stand back-to-back and conquer. Three are even better, for a triple-braided cord is not easily broken. (Ecclesiastes 4:9-10,12 NLT)

One of favorite classic artists is James Taylor and he recorded a song written by Carol King and it still warms my heart.  You Got A Friend

When you’re down and troubled
And you need some love and care
And nothing, nothing is going right
Close your eyes and think of me
And soon I will be there
To brighten up even your darkest night

You just call out my name
And you know wherever I am
I’ll come running, to see you again
Winter, spring, summer or fall
All you have to do is call
And I’ll be there
You’ve got a friend

If the sky above you
Grows dark and full of clouds
And that old north wind begins to blow
Keep your head together
And call my name out loud
Soon you’ll hear me knocking at your door

Now, ain’t it good to know that you’ve got a friend
When people can be so cold?
They’ll hurt you, yes, and desert you
And take your soul if you let them, oh, but don’t you let them
