Workout
I used to really consistent with working out. I used to run 3 miles per day. (Those who know me can’t quite picture this right now!) I also used to work out lifting weights five days a week. Now my body looks like one that used to work out and stopped. I’m using working out and exercising interchangeably. Some jobs include a physical work out. My job requires me to walk some when looking over property, but for the most part it is a “desk job”. I was recently introduced to a short exercise routine that is done through an app on my phone. Actually, the app simple leads me because the app can’t make me actually do the exercises. The app is called Seven. It is literally a 7:53 workout regimen. I realized that I had to start somewhere with some physical activity. This is a good starting point for me. I’ve been doing this for just over 2 months and I can tell a difference in my physical stamina each day.
Paul speaks into Timothy’s life about spiritual exercise and physical exercise. Check this out….
7 Do not waste time arguing over godless ideas and old wives’ tales. Instead, train yourself to be godly. 8 “Physical training is good, but training for godliness is much better, promising benefits in this life and in the life to come.” 9 This is a trustworthy saying, and everyone should accept it.10 This is why we work hard and continue to struggle, for our hope is in the living God, who is the Savior of all people and particularly of all believers. (1 Timothy 4:7-10 NLT)
Paul says a lot in these four verses. He speaks about how stupid it is to argue over dumb stuff. He challenges Timothy to instead train yourself to become godly. I believe all of exercise – physical or spiritual is about self-discipline. A friend of mine used to remind me that I could be in the best physical shape of my life, cut, trimmed, 6-pack abs, and still get hit by a truck and killed! He was making a point in his sarcasm – Preparing for eternity is much more significant. I realized that while I want to be healthier physically, I should not trade this temporary life for eternal life. I still need to make the most of the life I’m given here, so I will try to improve my physical life, one day at a time. I will also pursue spiritual health one day at a time. I want to live a full life that honors the Lord while I’m on this earth. I want to live for eternity too. It’s a balancing act that is weighted toward spiritual health versus physical health.
Pressing On!
