Words & Actions

I know people who “talk a good game”. If you listen to them, you assume that they are amazing at everything they do. They are the best fisherman, the best golfer, the best husband…. The list goes on and on.  It’s one thing to talk about what you’ll do or to talk about your abilities, it’s another thing to show by your actions what you’re capable of.

I think the applies big time when it comes to my faith journey. I have had seasons in my life where I went through the motions, but my heart was far from God. The thing is, He was likely the only One Who knew it. I was faking everyone else out.  Jesus called “the religious leaders” out on their hypocrisy. Check this out….

‘These people honor me with their lips,
but their hearts are far from me.
Their worship is a farce,
for they teach man-made ideas as commands from God.’” (Matthew 15:8-9; Isaiah 29:13 NLT)

We can’t fake it with the One Who knows all our thoughts.

We can’t fake it with the One Who wired us to love and worship Him.

I can fake others out, but He is not fooled. He looks past my actions and the activities of my day to examine my motives for doing things. I am generally very self-centered. I do most things because it serves me. He wants the activities of my day to serve Him and others over me.

When the words of my mouth and the meditations of my heart are aligned, I’m in a sweet spot that profoundly honors God.  That does not happen by accident. It takes work and self-discipline. The cool thing is… God is so patient with me through this process, because He sees my heart.

Pressing On!
