Witness

When I think of a witness, I remember a movie from the 1980’s called The Witness. A witness can testify as to what they saw. They are subject to questions and cross-examination. In a court of law there is an intensity that settles on a witness because the verdict often relies heavily on the unity of the witness’ testimony, and the evidence presented. A witness is supposed to be truthful and honest giving all the details.

I’m reading about Paul as he speaks to a mob who wants to kill him because of his teaching about Jesus. He starts by giving them some backstory of his upbringing and his education. He then tells him about his days of prosecuting the followers of Jesus (The Way). He then tells them about his experience on the road to Damascus. His call from Jesus was very compelling.

He then shares about his commission from Jesus after his eyesight was restored. It was clear what the Lord wanted. Check this out….

14 “Then he told me, ‘The God of our ancestors has chosen you to know his will and to see the Righteous One and hear him speak. 15 For you are to be his witness, telling everyone what you have seen and heard. 16 What are you waiting for? Get up and be baptized. Have your sins washed away by calling on the name of the Lord.’ (Acts 22:14-16 NLT)

His call as a witness for Jesus was relatively simple and straightforward. Tell everyone what you’ve seen and heard. I was moved by that simple call.  I can tell others what I’ve seen and heard from my journey with the Lord over the years. My experience may not be as exciting as others, but I can tell others about the faithfulness of the Lord. I can speak to His Presence and His Spirit leading me. I can speak of His grace and His mercy because I’ve experienced both firsthand. I can talk about His kindness and His great patience with me. I’m stumbled more times than I can count, and He is ALWAYS there to pick me up.

I will be a witness of the Lord for the rest of my life. I can imagine my life without Him in it. I can’t imagine where I’d be if I hadn’t met Him and surrendered my life to Him.  I will gladly tell anyone who will listen of His Work in my life. He is still working, and I am still learning and growing in my walk with Him.  I will gladly tell of all I’ve seen and heard from Him!

Pressing On!

Dwayne
