Wise Words

I’ve become quite a “podcast nerd”. I listen to pod cast way more than I listen to music during the week. I’m working Monday through Friday, so I listen to podcasts that challenge me, and teach me. I’m pretty confident that I learn something every time I listen. I have the podcast app loaded up with subscriptions and whenever I get in my vehicle, it starts playing automatically. I even listen when I’m cutting grass or working out. As I said, I’m a “podcast nerd”.

When listening to others, I’m gaining wisdom. I was listening to Dave Ramsey’s EntreLeadership and they played a clip of Dave speaking live. He reminded me that even a 14-year-old kid living in his grandma’s basement can have a critical opinion and can share it on social media. Sometimes criticism can knock us down, even though it’s not warranted or even true.  Dave said that “opinions are like arm-pits; everyone has one and it usually stinks”! I laughed out loud when he said that, because there is truth is that goofy little saying. I’m often paralyzed by harsh words and I need seek out wise words. Check this out….

Fools have no interest in understanding;
    they only want to air their own opinions.

Wise words are like deep waters;
    wisdom flows from the wise like a bubbling brook.

20 Wise words satisfy like a good meal;
    the right words bring satisfaction. (Proverbs 18:2,4,20 NLT)

The Words from The Word of God often contain wisdom for my life. I am reminded that Scripture can put a solid foundation beneath my feet. I can navigate challenging relationship and troubling situations when I’m grounded in the Word of God. I can also spot wisdom from a distance because I’ve seen it up close in the Word of God.

I want to keep growing and seeking out wise people. I want to be patient and listen to wise people. I want to hear their wise words and let them sink into my soul.  Wise words can help me grow. Wise words can help me in hard times. Wise words can help turn me in the right direction. Wise words from a friend can be trusted and they give life to my soul.

Pressing On!

Dwayne
