Wisdom & Insight

This is two characteristics that are a part of my prayers very often. I need wisdom and insight on a daily basis. I’m not sure how many decisions that I make every day or so, but I need the wisdom of God in all of them. Some decisions appear really simple or “clear cut”, but there can be issues surrounding them that make the decision significantly more complicated. I am an idiot without the Presence of God to give me wisdom and insight. Sometimes I act like an idiot, because I make decisions without His counsel. I have also been known to make a decision and then pray for His blessing afterward. #stupid

Solomon, in his great wisdom speaks clearly about wisdom and insight and how valuable they are to keep me from sin. Wisdom and insight allow me to see into the future, the consequences or ramifications of a decision I’m about to make. I believe wisdom and insight help me to avoid situations where temptation will be incredibly strong and possibly destructive. These words of instruction are solid. Check this out…

1Follow my advice, my son;
    always treasure my commands.
Obey my commands and live!
    Guard my instructions as you guard your own eyes.
Tie them on your fingers as a reminder.
    Write them deep within your heart.

Love wisdom like a sister;
    make insight a beloved member of your family.(Proverbs 7:1-4a NLT)

I want to be wiser than my years of experience. I want to learn from others wisdom and increase my own wisdom. I want to learn to ask good, insightful questions so that the answers will increase my own insight. I want to keep seeking the wisdom and insight that the Lord provides in His Word.

I remember a prayer for wisdom and insight that I used to share with families in my younger days as a student pastor when I would visit with a family. Check this out….

So we have not stopped praying for you since we first heard about you. We ask God to give you complete knowledge of his will and to give you spiritual wisdom and understanding. (Colossians 1:9 NLT)

Today and every day is a good day to pray for wisdom and insight. I’ve had the Lord give me creativity and insight into a surmountable problem and I’ve had Him whisper what should have been obvious to me. I am still praying for wisdom and insight every day of my life. Andy Stanley wrote a book called: “The Best Question Ever”(** SPOILER ALERT!). The best question ever is: “What is the wise thing to do?”  The answer to that question drips with wisdom and insight that the Lord is so consistent with delivering.

Pressing On!
