Willing To Server Wherever

The thing about serving in the Lord’s economy is that He might need me to do something that I’m way over-qualified to do. I may have skills and talents in one area of ministry, but I might be needed in another.  I think when my heart is in tune with the Lord, I will server wherever He calls me to serve.

Nehemiah was leading a group of the exiled Jews who were rebuilding the wall in Jerusalem. He had secured the blessing from the King of Persia and also secured funding, materials and security for travel. When he arrives at the gate, he assesses the situation and then rally’s the people to help.  It seems that no matter what their “day job” was, the people jumped in and helped build the wall. Check this out….

31 Malkijah, one of the goldsmiths, repaired the wall as far as the housing for the Temple servants and merchants, across from the Inspection Gate. Then he continued as far as the upper room at the corner. 32 The other goldsmiths and merchants repaired the wall from that corner to the Sheep Gate. (Nehemiah 3:31-32 NLT)

I love that Nehemiah had goldsmiths and merchants turned brick layers and construction personnel.  The people bought into the vision of seeing a wall built and they joined in. Because they were all pulling together, they were hugely successful in the end.

After reading this, I began asking myself a question or two…. Am I too good to do whatever the Lord calls me to do in His kingdom?  Am I willing to do the most menial task in God’s economy?  I think that before I can be upfront leading, I need to be leading behind the scenes when no one is watching. In God’s economy, it’s not about a title or a position – we are ALL SERVANTS.

I can learn to lay bricks.

I know how to change diapers.

I know how to plunge toilets.

I know how to mop floors.

I know how to teach.

My qualifications are humility and willingness to be or do whatever the Lord calls me to do and be.  I’m never too good or too qualified to serve wherever I’m needed.

Pressing On!

Dwayne
