Where Are You From?

Please note that the question is not where do you live? I’ve noticed that here in Georgia, where I live, there are a lot of people from other places.  There are probably more people here who are from here. I’ve lived in Georgia for the past 34 years. Before moving to Georgia, I lived in Tennessee for 6 years. I’m from Kentucky originally. I was born and raised in the Bluegrass state. Some of my family still live there.

When I’m studying the genealogies of 1 Chronicles, it stirs in me a reflection of my own family history. It brings a smile to face to think back when I was growing up in Kentucky. I’m pretty sure we were poor, but I wasn’t aware of it.  I made lots of friends as well as acquaintances there. I can still go back there and reconnect with many friends and family.

As I was reading these genealogies of the children of Israel (aka Jacob), I was reminded of Joseph’s (the coat of many colors) sons and their heirs. Check this out…

28 Their lands and settlements included Bethel and its surrounding villages, Naaran to the east, Gezer and its villages to the west, and Shechem and its villages all the way to Ayyah and its villages. 29 Along the borders of Manasseh were Beth Shan, Taanach, Megiddo and Dor, together with their villages. The descendants of Joseph son of Israel lived in these towns. (1 Chronicles 7:28-29 NLT)

Where I’m from is not as important as where I’m going. Where I live is also not as important as  how I’m living.  If I had my way, my children and their children would all live close by so that I could see them very often.  There is something that is so special about family and the ties that bind us together.

I’m still originally from Kentucky, but I’m now from Georgia. It’s been my home for many years. I love the people in Georgia. I love the climate (for the most part in Georgia.) I plan to live the rest of my days here.  I do enjoy going back to where I’m from occasionally to see the people and explore the places where my values and character where formed.  I’m trying to live every day to honor the Lord – it’s where I’m going.

Pressing On!

Dwayne
