What Goes Around….

Cause and effectThere is a saying that says: “what goes around, comes around”. It basically implies that a person’s actions, whether good or bad, will often have consequences for that person. My mom used to tell me: “be sure your sins will find you out”. I was also taught the Golden Rule at a very young age…”do unto others as you would have them do unto you”.

Assyria had a huge empire and they were ruthless in their treatment of other nations. Nahum tells of a time when they will get what their behavior deserves. Check this out…

18 King of Assyria, your shepherds slumber;

    your nobles lie down to rest.

Your people are scattered on the mountains

    with no one to gather them.

19 Nothing can heal you;

    your wound is fatal.

All who hear the news about you

    clap their hands at your fall,

for who has not felt

    your endless cruelty? (Nahum 3:18-19 NIV)

I was just sitting here thinking that I’m thankful that I receive grace instead of what I really deserve for my sin. I deserve punishment for my misbehavior, but instead I receive mercy. My thoughts and motives are not always pure. My actions are not always pure even though I may have the best of intentions. The Lord really does repair and restore people who are broken and messed up. He can take a broken spirit and make a beautiful piece of art out of it. I’m thankful for grace instead of the justice that I often deserve. What goes around doesn’t always come back around because of grace.

Pressing On!
