Warning

watch your stepThis word brings up negative thoughts because usually when I’m warned it’s because something bad is about to happen. I take note of weather warnings and when I receive a warning ticket about speeding, I realize that the next time I will get hit with a big fine. Sometimes warnings really scare me and in other situations, they are not that big a deal. When I read warning in the Word, I would be wise to pay close attention and heed the warning.

The people of Israel had many warnings via the prophet Ezekiel. They blew off the warnings and did what they wanted. The Lord would have the last word. He laid out the way He wanted them to live and they ignored Him. The warnings were issued and the punishment/discipline was delivered. Check this out.

28 I will make the land a desolate waste, and her proud strength will come to an end, and the mountains of Israel will become desolate so that no one will cross them. 29 Then they will know that I am the Lord, when I have made the land a desolate waste because of all the detestable things they have done.’

31 My people come to you, as they usually do, and sit before you to hear your words, but they do not put them into practice. Their mouths speak of love, but their hearts are greedy for unjust gain. 32 Indeed, to them you are nothing more than one who sings love songs with a beautiful voice and plays an instrument well, for they hear your words but do not put them into practice.

33 “When all this comes true—and it surely will—then they will know that a prophet has been among them.” (Ezekiel 33:28-29; 31-33 NIV)

I am learning to listen for warnings. I think it’s important to use all of my listening devices – my ears and my eyes to look for warning signs. If I see danger coming, I will warn my family and others too. I want to keep my heart in check so that I don’t ignore the warning signals. I want to listen carefully to the Word of God as written and as spoken. The sirens should go off in my head when the enemy tries to trip me up or take me down. I want to be on full alert for the warnings issued.

Pressing On!

Dwayne
