Vitality

This is a word that means “exuberant physical strength or mental vigor; capacity for survival or for the continuation of a meaningful or purposeful existence; power to live and grow”. My annual celebration of my birth is now just days away and these celebrations seem to come faster and faster the older I get. I am becoming more and more aware that age is also a state of the mind. There are things that I can do to build physical strength and mental strength. I admire people who are still going strong into their later years of life. They have chosen to happen to life instead of life happening to them. I came across a psalm that speaks of this very topic. Check this out….

12 But the godly will flourish like palm trees
    and grow strong like the cedars of Lebanon.
13 For they are transplanted to the Lord’s own house.
    They flourish in the courts of our God.
14 Even in old age they will still produce fruit;
    they will remain vital and green.
15 They will declare, “The Lord is just!
    He is my rock!
    There is no evil in him!” (Psalm 92:12-15 NLT)

A few years ago, I became old enough to get a free cup of coffee. I now qualify for the senior discount at many stores. I am even a card-carrying AARP member! I do realize that physically, I have slowed down some, but mentally, I’m still reading, listening and growing. I want to be full of vitality in my old age. I want to bring experience, wisdom and tons of knowledge into each situation that I’m faced with. I want my faith to grow deeper and deeper as I see to know God and hear from Him each day. I want my capacity to contain His Spirit to expand and grow until the day I die.

I am thankful to so many who are living examples of spiritual, mental and physical vitality. I enjoy being in their presence. They have a positive outlook on the sunset years of their lives and they still continue to grow in their faith. I want my transition into eternity to be a seamless move as I continue to get to know the Lord while I’m here. I want all who know me to be fully aware of my commitment to the Lord. I want to make walking with the Lord attractive to others because of how I live my life. I want to be a faithful follower of the Lord full of spiritual, mental and physical vitality!

Pressing On!

Dwayne
