Vindicate, Sustain & Deliver

Man praying with the BibleI was pretty sure I knew what “vindicate” meant, but I looked it up just to be sure. It means: “to clear ones name or honor from others who is falsely accused or put down.

The word “sustain” means “to support or bear up even though there’s pressure.” Sustain can apply to my mental state as well as my physical state.   King David was under tremendous pressure after being anointed king, he had to flee from Saul. There had to be lots of days of discouragement and despair. Check this out…

1 Save me, O God, by your name;

    vindicate me by your might.
2 Hear my prayer, O God;

    listen to the words of my mouth.
3 Arrogant foes are attacking me;

    ruthless people are trying to kill me –

    people without regard for God.
4 Surely God is my help;

    the Lord is the one who sustains me.
5 Let evil recoil on those who slander me;

    in your faithfulness destroy them.
6 I will sacrifice a freewill offering to you;

    I will praise your name, Lord, for it is good.
7 You have delivered me from all my troubles,

    and my eyes have looked in triumph on my foes. (Psalm 54:1-7 NIV)

Deliver is to “turn over or bring to the intended recipient”. King David was asking the Lord to deliver him from the one (Saul) who was trying to destroy him.

Vindicate, Sustain & Deliver describe something the God does really well. He has protected me, defended me, sustained me and delivered me on many occasions. He is powerful and mighty to save. I can’t imagine my life without Him doing what He does on my behalf. My hope and trust is in The Lord who vindicates, sustains and delivers!

Pressing On!
Dwayne
