Value Proposition

These two words encompass the full value of the opportunity you’re presented with. All benefits are included, and compensation is offered. There are value propositions for doing volunteer work at the hospital. The benefits are a bit intangible, but oh so worth it. This is a bit like it to follow Jesus. In fact, He gave a value proposition recorded by Matthew. Check this out…

24 Then Jesus said to his disciples, “If any of you wants to be my follower, you must give up your own way, take up your cross, and follow me. 25 If you try to hang on to your life, you will lose it. But if you give up your life for my sake, you will save it.26 And what do you benefit if you gain the whole world but lose your own soul? Is anything worth more than your soul? 27 For the Son of Man will come with his angels in the glory of his Father and will judge all people according to their deeds. (Matthew 16:24-27 NLT)

There is a cost to following Jesus. The cost is here and now. There is also a cost to NOT following Jesus – you don’t receive eternal life upon death.

I have learned over the years when I turn too far inward and focus on me, my wants and wishes that I can spiral downward.  When I look outward and notice others and their struggles, mine don’t seem so daunting. When I give my time to serve others, the rewards are not always immediate – sometimes it takes a while for the rewards to been seen. At other times, there is immediate blessing from serving another.

Jesus was reminding His disciples that His value proposition is quite different than any other. We can choose a life of ease and miss the point of this life – serving the Lord.  His value proposition is optional, but the benefits speak loud and clear.

I want to serve the Lord.

I want my life to count for Him.

I want love others and serve them for His sake and because of His Value Proposition. The payback is quite lopsided. My years in serving and loving others can turn into an eternity with the Lord.

Pressing On!
