Unexplainable

Worship to GodI’ve had some situations happen to me that I find hard to explain to others. Sometimes it’s a simple as a “location story” – you had to be there to really understand. At other times it’s impossible to convey the full depth & height of the experience. I have heard from others a remarkable experience that is mind blowing of what they went through and how God spoke into them through that experience.

Moses had an unexplainable experience but as the event is retold, I would be speechless. Check this out…

1 Now Moses was tending the flock of Jethro his father-in-law, the priest of Midian, and he led the flock to the far side of the wilderness and came to Horeb, the mountain of God. 2 There the angel of the Lord appeared to him in flames of fire from within a bush. Moses saw that though the bush was on fire it did not burn up. 3 So Moses thought, ‘I will go over and see this strange sight – why the bush does not burn up.’

4 When the Lord saw that he had gone over to look, God called to him from within the bush, ‘Moses! Moses!’

And Moses said, ‘Here I am.’

5 ‘Do not come any closer,’ God said. ‘Take off your sandals, for the place where you are standing is holy ground.’ 6 Then he said, ‘I am the God of your father, the God of Abraham, the God of Isaac and the God of Jacob.’ At this, Moses hid his face, because he was afraid to look at God. (Exodus 3:1-6 NIV)

I imagine that Moses is minding his own business shepherding the flock of his father-in-law when he sees a bush on fire that is not being consumed and he hears a voice from the bush. He did what I would probably do – go over for a look. But then God speaks and stops him from coming closer. He had no idea that this was God. He had no idea that the ground he was on was Holy.

God speaks into Moses and lays out His plan to rescue Moses’ people from the oppression of the Egyptians. This will not be a short conversation or the last conversation between God and Moses, but I think it’s the first.

This event made me think about how God speaks to me. I’ve never heard an audible voice from God directing me to go somewhere or do something, but I have certainly felt Him speak to me in all sorts of ways that is hard to explain to others. I’ve felt prompted to give something away. I’ve felt led to check in on another person at “just the right time”. I’ve felt Him prompt me to sell things or buy things. I’ve felt him clearly push me out of my comfort zone to do something on His behalf. I’ve never heard Him speak from a burning bush! God’s Word clearly speaks into me when I read and let His Spirit settle into my heart. I read the same passage that I’ve read many times before, but I hear from Him differently this time. I really want to tune my hearing heart to pick up what ever He wants to say to me in my everyday, regular life.

Pressing On!
