Treasury
I have always imagined back in Jesus’ day that treasure was kept in a chest. It was there to look at and count to keep up with how much money was in the treasury. Today, we can check on our phone to see account balances and even what we spend our money on.
Jesus speaks to a different kind of treasury – my heart. He speaks to two kinds of treasure: good or evil. I really want to cultivate a treasury of a good heart. Check this out….
33 “A tree is identified by its fruit. If a tree is good, its fruit will be good. If a tree is bad, its fruit will be bad. 34 You brood of snakes! How could evil men like you speak what is good and right? For whatever is in your heart determines what you say. 35 A good person produces good things from the treasury of a good heart, and an evil person produces evil things from the treasury of an evil heart. (Matthew 12:33-35 NLT)
A good heart loves like Jesus.
A good heart serves like Jesus.
A good heart produces kindness, gentleness, joy, truth.
An evil heart produces hatred, deceit, dishonesty, selfishness, and a lot of other characteristics of the enemy.
I believe the Lord looks past the activities of my life to see the motive or the heart behind the activities. If I’m doing good to be noticed by men, then my motives are sideways. I want to live today in such a way that it’s clear to all who know me that my heart belongs to the Lord. I’m cultivating the treasury of a good heart. I need the Lord’s help with my heart every day.
Pressing On!
