Touch
This word means to “come into contact or be in contact with”. I think touch is powerful. Touch is important to us as humans. I was meeting some clients the other day to show houses and I reached out to shake his hand and he said: “I’m a hugger” and we hugged. It was warm and welcoming. I thanked him for that. We humans respond to touch. Obviously, I’m not speaking of any sort of inappropriate touch. I’m speaking of a hand on the shoulder. There is also, the shake of a hand, high five or even now a fist bump.
I love the story of the woman who simply touched Jesus’ robe when He was on His way to heal Jarius’ daughter. There were many more instances of healing like that. Check this out…
53 After they had crossed the lake, they landed at Gennesaret. They brought the boat to shore 54 and climbed out. The people recognized Jesus at once, 55 and they ran throughout the whole area, carrying sick people on mats to wherever they heard he was. 56 Wherever he went—in villages, cities, or the countryside—they brought the sick out to the marketplaces. They begged him to let the sick touch at least the fringe of his robe, and all who touched him were healed. (Mark 6:53-56 NLT)
I think I had missed this is the past. I can imagine the crowded situation. Jesus was a celebrity because of the healing touch He brought to so many. He changed the trajectory of many lives. They were likely to be cripple, deaf or blind for the rest of their life – until the touch of Jesus.
I have never touched Him, but He has touched me. He has healed me. He has helped me. He has spoken to me. He leads me. He advises me.
I am different because of the touch of Jesus upon my life. He changed the trajectory of my life more than once. He is still working on me (there is lot to do) and He still wants me to help others to know Him and feel His touch upon their life. I remembered this song I heard as a kid….
He touched me, oh, He touched me
And oh, the joy that floods my soul
Something happened, and now I know
He touched me, and made me whole (by Bill Gaither)
I want to notice His touch today upon my life.
Pressing On!
