Timing

I’ve heard it said that “timing is everything”. I’m not sure that I would totally agree with that statement, but there is something significant to the timing of big or important events. I don’t always understand God’s timing, but I’ve learned to totally trust His timing. He knows things that I can’t possibly know yet. He sees things that are not visible yet.

I love the story of Abraham and Sarah. I love seeing how Abraham’s life unfolds as he is a man of deep and abiding faith in God. When God tells Abraham that he’s going to have a son, it blows his mind and it makes his wife, Sarah laugh. The Lord is very deliberate with His activity on the earth and in people’s lives. He delivers on His promise to Abraham and Sarah. Check this out….

1The Lord kept his word and did for Sarah exactly what he had promised. She became pregnant, and she gave birth to a son for Abraham in his old age. This happened at just the time God had said it would. And Abraham named their son Isaac. Eight days after Isaac was born, Abraham circumcised him as God had commanded. Abraham was 100 years old when Isaac was born.

And Sarah declared, “God has brought me laughter. All who hear about this will laugh with me. Who would have said to Abraham that Sarah would nurse a baby? Yet I have given Abraham a son in his old age!”(Genesis 21:1-7 NLT)

This passage speaks to the timing element of God’s promise to Abraham and Sarah. I would suggest that after studying the Word of God and seeing how He operates, He is very deliberate with His timing. There are times when I pray about someone who is ill, and I want healing quickly. There are times when a loved one is at deaths door and I want the Lord to take them quickly and He doesn’t. He knows exactly what He’s doing with timing – I just don’t always know what He’s doing with His timing.

I’m still learning to pray about everything and worry about nothing. I don’t control the Lord’s timing, but I don’t think He’s the least bit offended with me asking Him to do something quickly or in a specific time frame. He isn’t bound by my time frame or time zone.  He can do anything at any time. I’m thankful that He listens to my prayer, but then answers my prayer in His time frame of reference. He knows and does what is best even if it’s not what I want. He is on time – every time and I need to accept His timing every time – even if I don’t understand it.

Pressing On!
