Tight Grip

A few months ago, my wife had surgery on her wrist. The repair was made, and it was a relatively simple procedure. However, it took a while for her grip to return to her hand. The hand can’t act without out the signals from the brain going through the wrist. Her grip was hindered for a few weeks while the healing process was progressing.

I came across a passage in scripture this morning that reminded me of the power of grip. It made me reflect on what I’m keeping a tight grip on. Check this out…

25 One day an expert in religious law stood up to test Jesus by asking him this question: “Teacher, what should I do to inherit eternal life?”

26 Jesus replied, “What does the law of Moses say? How do you read it?”

27 The man answered, “‘You must love the Lord your God with all your heart, all your soul, all your strength, and all your mind.’ And, ‘Love your neighbor as yourself.’”

28 “Right!” Jesus told him. “Do this and you will live!” (Luke 10:25-28 NLT)

It’s easy in our culture to hold tightly to the wrong things. For example, we make a big fuss over the things that we acquire while we’re here on earth and yet none of the material things we hold tightly to can go with us after we die. There are some things that are eternal, and I believe it’s people. I’m not sure if we will recognize one another in heaven, but I tend to think so.  I also believe that people are eternal and everything else is temporary. I believe that there are people who’ve made some horrible choices and will likely spend eternity in hell. I believe that are some amazing people on this earth who will spend eternity in heaven because they’ve accepted Jesus, the One and Only Son of God as their Savior.   If I love God with all my heart, soul, strength and mind – I will accept Jesus as my Savior.

I need to grip tightly my relationships with people made in God’s image.

I need to hold loosely to the material possessions that make me look affluent and successful.

God’s economy uses way different reference points to identify what a good, successful life looks like. I want to operate my life and business within God’s economy first and foremost.

Pressing On!
