The Name

I remember when my children were born how we chose their names. There was some thought and process behind their names. Their last name is in place because they are my children. I wanted each of my kids to be called by their first name. I also wanted a name that they wouldn’t be picked on because of. (I couldn’t help the last name… Hicks, aka Hicks from the sticks, “Hickey”, etc.….) I also wanted to teach them over the years the value of character and how it’s attached to your name. Looking back, I’m so incredibly thankful for my children and who they’ve become. I really want them above everything else, to know the name of Jesus. I want them to know all that He has done and is doing in their lives.

When Jesus came to earth, He was introduced as the King of all Kings and His Name was above every name. Before He came, it was foretold by Isaiah and other prophets that He would come and change the trajectory of the nation of Israel and the entire world. Check this out….

But I will reveal my name to my people, and they will come to know its power. Then at last they will recognize that I am the one who speaks to them.”

How beautiful on the mountains
are the feet of the messenger who brings good news,
the good news of peace and salvation,
the news that the God of Israel reigns!
The watchmen shout and sing with joy,
    for before their very eyes
they see the Lord returning to Jerusalem. (Isaiah 52:6-8 NLT)

Now that I’m grown, and I’ve walked with the Lord for years, I realize the Power of Jesus’ name. He came to earth as a baby, lived among us, performed amazing, supernatural miracles and then became the final sacrifice needed to wipe out sin. There is power in the name of Jesus. At the mention of His Name, the enemy flees. The mention of His name brings light into the darkness I may be walking through. There is power over addiction in the Name of Jesus.

Since I’ve trusted Him, I think His name is wonderful. I think His name is beautiful. I believe His name is powerful.
