The Big Move

Full Moving TruckIn my daily work as a REALTOR I get the privilege of helping people from one place to another. They sometimes come from another state here in the US or they are moving from one part of West Georgia to another. There is a sense of excitement and anticipation when people are moving. A new chapter is their lives are beginning and they are excited. From the time they put their house on the market to selling it and buying the new place, there are a lot of moving parts to the transaction process. It is definitely not simple, but it still can be really fun and exciting. I really do my very best to prepare each of my clients for each step of the process because I’ve learned if you sort of know what to expect, then you can navigate the “bumps in the process” when they show up – and they do show up sometimes.

Joseph was moving his entire family from Canaan to Egypt. They didn’t need a 3 bedroom house on 3 acres – there were 70 of them and they had lots of livestock. They ended up in a nice region of Egypt. Joseph was able to orchestrate getting them some of the best land in Egypt. Check this out…

1 Joseph went and told Pharaoh, ‘My father and brothers, with their flocks and herds and everything they own, have come from the land of Canaan and are now in Goshen.’ 2 He chose five of his brothers and presented them before Pharaoh.

3 Pharaoh asked the brothers, ‘What is your occupation?’

‘Your servants are shepherds,’ they replied to Pharaoh, ‘just as our fathers were.’ 4 They also said to him, ‘We have come to live here for a while, because the famine is severe in Canaan and your servants’ flocks have no pasture. So now, please let your servants settle in Goshen.’

5 Pharaoh said to Joseph, ‘Your father and your brothers have come to you, 6 and the land of Egypt is before you; settle your father and your brothers in the best part of the land. Let them live in Goshen. And if you know of any among them with special ability, put them in charge of my own livestock.’ (Genesis 47:1-6 NIV)

It is clear that Joseph had earned great favor with Pharaoh. He went from prison to second in command and his leadership abilities and his project management abilities paid off for Pharaoh. His family was in a whole new country along with their livestock and it is now official with Pharaoh’s stamp of approval. Joseph had saved his family from the famine as well as thousands and thousands of people in the region of Egypt. The Lord had turned the tragic situation of him being sold into slavery into a huge win for his family and many others. The big move for Joseph’s family came about because He was faithful to the Lord no matter what the circumstances. I’m not sure that any of this happens without his faithful journey before God. That inspires me to keep pursuing the heart of God every day of my life.

Pressing On!
