Strong Protection

I remember when my children were very young. I was constantly teaching them of things that were dangerous to them. I had to explain that the stove was often hot. I had to explain how electricity can kill. There were many things that were dangerous until they were taught how to manage it or navigate around or through it. I couldn’t put them in a bubble and keep them from the world as they grew older. I had to help them know where danger was lurking. Sometimes danger was lurking in a “friend”. That one may be the hardest for younger people to understand. I’m not sure many adults even understand that we become a lot like the people we hang around the most – still.

The Lord gives protection from danger.

The Lord gives protection from evil.

The Lord is a safe place to “hang out” and prepare for what is ahead. My future is not a surprise to Him, though it might be to me. The descendants of Korah penned a great Psalm about the Power and Protection the Lord provides. Check this out….

12 Go, inspect the city of Jerusalem.
Walk around and count the many towers.
13 Take note of the fortified walls,
    and tour all the citadels,
that you may describe them
    to future generations.
14 For that is what God is like.
He is our God forever and ever,
and he will guide us until we die. (Psalm 48:12-14 NLT)

There are way too many times when I feel weak and helpless. The Lord is NEVER weak or helpless. He is always strong and present. He doesn’t leave me. He doesn’t “take a break”. The enemy doesn’t take a break either. The enemy doesn’t leave me alone. The enemy is also strong and present, but He “doesn’t hold a candle” to the strength and power of God’s Presence.

I was reminded of a song that is still played on Christian Radio called: Strong Towerwritten and performed by Kutless.

When I wander through the desert
And I’m longing for my home
All my dreams have gone astray
When I’m stranded in the valley
And I’m tired and all alone
It seems like I’ve lost my way

I go running to your mountain
Where your mercy sets me free

You are my strong tower
A shelter over me
Beautiful and mighty
Everlasting king
You are my strong tower
Fortress when I’m weak
Your name is true and holy
And your face is all I see

In the middle of my darkness
In the midst of all my fear
You’re my refuge and my hope
When the storm of life is raging
And the thunder’s all I hear
You speak softly to my soul
