Strong Grip

HandshakeI remember being taught as a young teen to properly shake hands with someone. I was told a good firm handshake speaks of confidence and character. I don’t know if all of that is true, but I do like to shake hands with someone who has a firm grip. I also like to greet my dear friends with and handshake/hug. While shaking hands firmly, I will pull them in for an embrace.  There is warmth in a strong grip and an embrace.

I also recall games of tug-of-war when I was a kid – I had to hold on tight to the rope and pull with all my strength to defeat the other team who was pulling in the opposite direction. A strong grip is important in tug-of-war for sure.

Paul challenges the church at Thessalonica to keep a strong grip on the truth that they’ve been taught. Check this out…

13 As for us, we can’t help but thank God for you, dear brothers and sisters loved by the Lord. We are always thankful that God chose you to be among the first to experience salvation—a salvation that came through the Spirit who makes you holy and through your belief in the truth. 14 He called you to salvation when we told you the Good News; now you can share in the glory of our Lord Jesus Christ.

15 With all these things in mind, dear brothers and sisters, stand firm and keep a strong grip on the teaching we passed on to you both in person and by letter. (2 Thessalonians 2:13-15 NLT)

Keeping a strong grip on what I believe is easier said than done. There are so many people who seek to distract me and break my grip on truth. This isn’t really complicated. I must keep being a seeker of deep truth from the Word of God. He reveals more of Himself the more I seek. He gives me strength in my grip on the truth. His Presence in me reveal false truth and reveals hidden truth. I am doing my best to keep a strong grip to all the He is speaking into my heart each day while managing the assault upon truth from the culture I live in. Truth is not relative to any situation – it stands strong in the middle of any situation I find myself. I want to keep a strong grip on the Truth found in the Word of God.

Pressing On!

Dwayne
