Speechless

There have been a few times when I was so surprised or dumbfounded that I didn’t know what to say. That doesn’t mean I didn’t say something. I’m a bit of a nervous talker. If the silence goes too long in a conversation, I will figure out a way to keep it going. That is not always a good trait. I am still working on the discipline of being a good listener and a present listener. I’m often thinking about what I’m going to say next while the other person is finishing their statement or response.

Moses was very intimidated as a speaker – in fact, he pushed back on the Lord’s call more than anyone else in the pages of biblical history. He did though become an amazing leader of God’s people through the largest transition in their storied history. God had called him to lead the people of Israel. He empowered Moses to do miraculous signs and promised His Presence and His very words to speak. Moses still pushed back. Check this out….

10 But Moses pleaded with the Lord, “O Lord, I’m not very good with words. I never have been, and I’m not now, even though you have spoken to me. I get tongue-tied, and my words get tangled.”

11 Then the Lord asked Moses, “Who makes a person’s mouth? Who decides whether people speak or do not speak, hear or do not hear, see or do not see? Is it not I, the Lord? 12 Now go! I will be with you as you speak, and I will instruct you in what to say.”

13 But Moses again pleaded, “Lord, please! Send anyone else.”(Exodus 4:10-13 NLT)

I love the questions that the Lord asked Moses. He is obviously making a point because He knows the answers to each of His questions. I was reminded by this that the Lord wants me to surrender all to Him. He wants me to surrender my speech to Him. He wants me to surrender my feet and my hands to Him. He wants me to surrender my thought processes…. He wants all of me surrendered to Him. He will then speak, walk and do through me what He wills for my life. My role is to be speechless and surrendered to Him and then He will lead me to speak and serve where He calls me to. I’m probably not going to do something monumental like move nearly a million people across the desert to a new land, but whatever the Lord calls me to do today, I want to listen, trust Him and follow His lead.

Pressing On!

Dwayne
