Soul Soil

In the spring of the year, the soil needs to be prepared for planting. If a farmer is planting several acres of corn or soybeans, he must get the ground ready before planting. As a kid, I remember helping plant the garden with my parents and grandparents.  It took lots of preparation prior to planting the seeds.  It is crazy to think how much corn is produced from dropping a couple of kernels of seed corn into the soil.

Jesus told a parable about soils and seed. He explained to His followers the importance of planting in the proper soil. Check this out…

15 And the seeds that fell on the good soil represent honest, good-hearted people who hear God’s word, cling to it, and patiently produce a huge harvest. (Luke 8:15 NLT)

Footpath – hear, but the message is removed from them.

Rocky – roots can’t go down deep.

Thorns – the message is crowded out.

It is my responsibility to prepare the soil of my soul to receive the seed of God’s Word!  I can do that through worship. I can do that through intercessory prayer. I can do that spending time in His Word.  I can also spend time in fellowship with other Christ-followers. I also have found that beginning my day with gratitude really does wonders for my soul soil.

There have been seasons in my life where my soul soil was not in a good place. I’m so thankful for the Lord’s Grace and Mercy toward me in those hard seasons.  The Lord’s Presence in me is critical to my soul soil preparation.

Pressing On!

Dwayne
