Song Of Obedience

Songwriter with a guitarI absolutely love to sing. I think I can find a song for most any occasion. I can find a song of joy, gladness, sad, mad and everything in between. Songs touch my heart like nothing else can. I believe that I’m not alone in this. I like songs that speak of love. I like songs that speak of respect toward another. I like dancing songs. I like sad songs sometimes. I actually like Apple Music because as I can listen to any song that’s there and decide if I want it on my phone. Music speaks volumes into my soul and from my soul like no other language can.

The prophetess Deborah pens a song after Israel (with the Lord’s help) defeated Sisera of Canaan. Check this out…

1 On that day Deborah and Barak son of Abinoam sang this song:

2‘When the princes in Israel take the lead,

when the people willingly offer themselves –

    praise the Lord!

31 ‘So may all your enemies perish, O Lord!

But may all who love you be like the sun

when it rises in its strength.’

Then the land had peace for forty years. (Judges 4:1-2, 31 NIV)

I love singing songs about the love and mercy of God. The people of Israel didn’t deserve for God to rescue them, but out of His love and mercy, He did just that. One of the reasons I love to sing songs to the Lord is because I’ve come to terms with how lost I am without Him.

I can understand on some levels the angst that a songwriter goes through to put a song down on paper. I penned a coupled of simple songs of worship over 10 years ago that expressed my heart to the Lord. One of the songs was so simple, but I still find myself singing a line or two.

I Worship You – in all that I say and in all that I do – I worship You.

Sometimes when I’m away from home, I love Phillip Phillips “Home”. This song blesses me all the way home.

I’m enjoying a song of worship right now by Jesus Culture called: “Fierce”.

I am humbled and amazed by the Love the Lord has for me. As I reflect on my journey with the Lord, there have been many songs that have enhanced the journey along the way. I just want to sing!

Pressing On!
