Simple & Deep Faith

I have been a follower of Jesus since I was a kid. Back then, I was leaning into my parents and grand parents’ faith. When I was in college, I began to own my faith. I wanted to honor the Lord. That was over 40 years ago. My relationship with the Lord has been growing and going deeper over the years. There were times when I was frustrated with Him and many more times, He was frustrated with me. I hate to confess that my faith in the Lord grew deeper when I left full-time ministry. I think when you’re “paid to be spiritual”, my journey with Him became more of a job then a relationship.  I don’t think that this feeling filled up my whole time in ministry, but I remember talking with the Lord about this.

There is a story of Jesus’ encounter with a Roman Centurion and leader in the Roman military machine. He had obviously heard of Jesus and His Power to heal. The Centurion needed Jesus because his kid was very sick. He was grasping at whatever hope he could get. Check this out…..

When Jesus returned to Capernaum, a Roman officer came and pleaded with him, “Lord, my young servant lies in bed, paralyzed and in terrible pain.”

Jesus said, “I will come and heal him.”

But the officer said, “Lord, I am not worthy to have you come into my home. Just say the word from where you are, and my servant will be healed. I know this because I am under the authority of my superior officers, and I have authority over my soldiers. I only need to say, ‘Go,’ and they go, or ‘Come,’ and they come. And if I say to my slaves, ‘Do this,’ they do it.”

10 When Jesus heard this, he was amazed. Turning to those who were following him, he said, “I tell you the truth, I haven’t seen faith like this in all Israel!

13 Then Jesus said to the Roman officer, “Go back home. Because you believed, it has happened.” And the young servant was healed that same hour. (Matthew 8:5-10,13 NLT)

I want to keep growing in my faith.

I want to believe that with God all things are possible.

I also need the Lord to help me with my unbelief.

There are times when I’m skeptical or I like to refer to it as a “realist”.

I find help with my faith as I take time to read and study The Word. I’m determined to start my day with The Lord speaking to me. I do enough talking/praying to Him the rest of the day. I’m talking to the Lord today about growing deeper in faith. This soldier, who was “an enemy to the Jewish people” inspired me to come before the Lord with a simple but deep faith.

Pressing On!
