Shielded
I am fascinated when I see a full suit of armor, a shield and spear. I can only imagine wearing something like that and going into battle. That was the norm for the higher-ranking soldiers. I imagine the other soldiers simply had a sword and spear but were more agile and quick. Our military now has “armored vehicles” for protection. The enemy just formulates a response of some sort to our “protective shield”. I think sometimes I forget just how desperate battles were and still are. I am blessed to live in a country where others are fighting to shield citizens like me from those who want to bring us harm. Even at a local level, the law enforcement is protecting and serving. Their badges are usually in some form of a shield.
At one point in David’s life, his son Absalom plans a coup. David flees from his home. He’s on the run with a few devoted followers. He writes this Psalm in the midst of fearing for his life. Check this out….
3 But you, O Lord, are a shield around me;
you are my glory, the one who holds my head high.
4 I cried out to the Lord,
and he answered me from his holy mountain.
5 I lay down and slept,
yet I woke up in safety,
for the Lord was watching over me.(Psalm 3:3-5 NLT)
The Presence of God in my life is a shield.
I feel His Protection over me. I feel His Presence in me.
I feel safe when I’m walking in His way and His will.
I can make choices that put me in danger or at risk. I can also seek His wisdom in my daily choices so that I’m under the protection of His shield.
I feel safe when I’m in the Presence of God. I feel protected and safe when I’m walking within His will and call upon my life. This protection and position was provided because of His love for me, not because of anything I’ve done. Jesus made it possible, because He made a way for me to have direct access to Creator God. I’m always safe with Him. He has even protected me from myself.
Pressing On!
