Shallow Sin vs Deep Faith
I’ve been on both sides of this debate. I sometimes want what I want, and I go after it regardless if it’s healthy and good for me. I sometimes ignore the wise counsel of the Lord when He’s giving me subtle warnings or even shouting out the warnings. I do believe that sin is shallow but deadly. Sin appears rather harmless and even attractive. Beneath the surface of “shallow sin” is devastation and often life-long destruction.
Deep faith can help me spot the shallow sin and it’s harmful and painful effects from a long way off. Deep faith can quicken my hearing from the Lord so that I don’t miss His warnings. Deep faith can help me see what is below the surface of shallow sin. Deep faith can show me the long term or life-long destruction that shallow sin can bring. Jeremiah is speaking for the Lord and warning them of their sin. Check this out….
23 But my people have stubborn and rebellious hearts.
They have turned away and abandoned me.
24 They do not say from the heart,
‘Let us live in awe of the Lord our God,
for he gives us rain each spring and fall,
assuring us of a harvest when the time is right.’
25 Your wickedness has deprived you of these wonderful blessings.
Your sin has robbed you of all these good things. (Jeremiah 5:23-25 NLT)
Shallow sin had taken some really good people down.
Deep faith has sustained some good people and helped them resist sin.
Shallow sin is sometimes whimsical and reckless.
Deep faith carries with it discernment and wisdom.
I believe that time spent in God’s Word and at the feet of Jesus, His One and ONLY Son will deepen my faith and help me recognize shallow sin so that I can run the other way.
Pressing On!
