Servant

It sometimes blows my mind that the One and Only Son of God came to serve instead of being served. He held the highest place on earth given Him by Creator God, but He chose serving. The most powerful person on earth today has lots of people serving him. Jesus came in such a humble way. He served in such a humble way. When He was pushed by the Pharisees, He called them out for exercising the power and authority of their position. He made some statements about humility that are still resonating with me today. Check this out…

11 The greatest among you must be a servant.12 But those who exalt themselves will be humbled, and those who humble themselves will be exalted. (Matthew 23:11-12 NLT)

The road to humility and humble serving isn’t crowded. The road to self-absorption and self-promotion is a bit crowded. It is a daily fight to be humble. It seems to me that when you arrive at humility, you might start to be proud of yourself for being humble. I was reminded of the words of Paul about Christ living in me. Check this out….

Indeed, I have been crucified with Christ. My ego is no longer central. It is no longer important that I appear righteous before you or have your good opinion, and I am no longer driven to impress God. Christ lives in me. The life you see me living is not “mine,” but it is lived by faith in the Son of God, who loved me and gave himself for me. I am not going to go back on that. (Galatians 2:20 The Message)

I started writing these little blogs a few years ago because I felt called by the Lord to do it. About a year after I started, I felt like He asked me to share what He was speaking to me with others. I do not write to be noticed by readers. I write because I want to know Him more and walk in humble obedience before Him. I must keep a constant check on my ego because when others are blessed by something I do or say, I must keep in mind the meaning behind the action is humble serving.

Zig Ziglar used to say… “If you help enough people get what they want, then you’ll get what you want”. It’s not really a quid pro quo. It’s just serving others every day and in any way you can. I am humbled and blessed by the people who take time to read my writings, because I’m not a professional writer by any standards. I’m simply a follower of Jesus seeking ways to serve Him by serving others.

Pressing On!

Dwayne
